Hi, my name is Otto Schulz. I was born on 7th of February 1886 in
Silesia. I adapted the job of my father as a shoemaker's
apprentice. But then I had to carry out my duty in the Prussian
military.
After i got my discharge from the army i found myself back on the
street. The
Uneployment in Germany was very high and i could not find work
again.
Therefore, a good friend of mine and I made the decision to try
our luck somewhere else. USA sounded like the land of the plenty.
We dreamt of a new and better life. In 1910 we finally made it and
embarked on the SS Main. Our port of destination was Philadelphia
After the voyage we wanted to go to Wiketaw, Kansas where my uncle
had a farm. We hoped that we could get a job there till we had
some money for ourselves.
But dreams are ten a penny, we never made it to Wiketaw,
instead of it I had give up my shoemaker trade and settled in
Coldwater for a time. After years of hard work in coldwater as a
farm labourer I moved to Missouri. I built up a farm in Weston,
married my beatifull wife, which was the daughter of a German
farmer and she beared my two sons.

Life continued, we lived under decent conditions.
It's the year1941, my son died a few month ago. My other son
changed his family into Scholz, he says it's easier for him. With
my 55 years I feel how my vital force leaves me......
Otto Schultz died in 1941 of a heart attack.
He came to America to fullfill his dreams.
His small farm was sold after his son's dead in 2004.
