Sloane, he gets pissed at the Lavery's every weekend. Jake's former
girlfriend Sarah left him to London again because she couldn't cope with the troubles in Northern
Ireland |spot

he still suffers from the way she left him and from the abortion of
their child. That's why he desperately tries to replace her by
falling in love again and again although he knows he will get hurt again. This is
how he tries to escape loneliness. Another example of him being
sensitive is that he turns off the radio whenever he hears bad news
about bombings etc. Having dated a police- officer's
girlfriend, he gets beaten up which surprisingly has nothing to do
with his religion |spot

although he hates the job because the personally affected do not make any
trouble. He feels sorry for them which finally
is the reason for him to quit. Because of his bad conscience about
his last job where an ill lady comes to grief, he feels guilty and
decides to sell some of his own valuables in order to cover the
damage. Being affected by the fate of the twelve- year- old
bedraggled boy Roche | spot

apartment and
tries to help him to get away from his violent father having
been reminded of his own childhood. Following Slat's advice, he
sends the boy home. After he visited Roche, who got beaten up, in
hospital, he hopes Roche will find foster parents since his own
parents aren't interested in the boy's well- being |spot

since Jake met Aoirghe | spot

politics. At the hospital, the situation between them escalates when
Jake shouts at her and she runs away crying. At the very
end, they become a couple.
