Chuckie meets John Evans on the flight from New York
to San Diego. Evans is a San Diego tycoon. He represents the image
of the typical rich, into big business, sun- tanned, white - teethed
American. Throughout the flight to San Diego Evans becomes
enormously interested in Chuckie's business and (more or less)
secret plans. He finally asks Chuckie to work together with him.
Despite Evan's fame, Chuckie is not impressed but gets more and more
bored. I find it amazing to imagine big fat Protestant Eureka -
street born Chuckie being talked to by an American billionaire and
not showing any interest in what this guy says. Quotes: Chuck:
(looking at an article on Evans in a magazine) "It says here
you've got a private jet" J.E: "That's
right" Chuck: "Is it broken
at the minute?" J.E: "What?" Chuck:
"What are you doing on this plane?" J:E:
"Oh, right..." Chuck:
"...and then I bought this big fuck - off car that I couldn't
even drive. It was too big to park so I had to abandon it in the
middle of the road all the time and then, of course, the Army panics
and sends in its bomb - disposal team and they threaten to blow it
up because they think it's a car - bomb and..." ...For
the next half - hour Evans badgered Chuckie for more information.
Chuckie was growing wild with despair They would land soon and he
didn't want to turn up at Max's door without some preparation. Unfortunately,
his demonstrably lack of interest made Evans wild with plutocratic
desire. Christopher
