Ernest Hemingway
"The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber"

The Macombers are looking forward to the safari trip while Wilson, their hunting guide, accompanies them.

Francis Macomber failed at justifying his manhood and feels ashamed being a coward while Mrs. Macomber begins to prefer Wilson.

Francis Macomber has succesfully shot a giant buffalo and enjoys his newly gained pride and self-confidence. Impressed by his hunting performance, Mrs. Macomber admires him again.

Mrs. Macomber "accidentally" shoots her husband in order to allegedly rescue him.

Mrs. Macomber now is dependent on Wilson who is not to tell on her in order to anticipate an investigation by the police.
