Apartheid has a big influence on the characters in "The Typewriter".
| The black students only get a bad school
education, preparing
them only for menial jobs, called Bantu Education.

Therefore they protest
and die from police bullets. Many young Africans become
rebellious characters who do not want to accept their situation
while the older generation learned to live with Apartheid, like
Nandi´s mother.
