In
1953 The Bantu Education Act is imposed. From now on African children shall be prepared just for lowgrade work.
In
1976 the government says that, from now on, all lessons will be
taught in Afrikaans. As a reaction to that thousands of black
secondary students in Soweto protest against being taught in the
language of their oppressors. During these demonstrations hundreds
of young people, children as well, are shot by the police, thousands
are thrown into jail. Lots of young people escape from the country,
some go to MK (Umkhonto we Sizwe/ Spear of the Nation), which
trains soldiers and fights an "underground" war.
