The main problem is
that the adult white people exemplify the behavior against black and
the white children adapt the treatment against the black Africans.
| Veronica sees her neighbour
standing in front of a black child, torturing him with a cane
till he can't take it any more. Veronica can't bear that sort of
inhumane treatment but has to observe the scene
until the boy's cry is "reduced to a soft
whimpering". |

this story, there is an open-minded girl that has got no experiences
with racial prejudices, on the contrary: She likes her black maid
Rebecca:
- She lives in
Johannesburg and has got a black maid called Rebecca. With her she
talks about everything and shares her secrets.

But during the story she learns the benefits
of being white in a land controlled by white people. She starts to
take advantage of her white skin, even if black people have to
suffer for her pleasure.
