This
story is a good example of the responsibility parents take for the
mental development of their children. In such a cliff-hanging
environment like South-Africa in the year 1948, it's an important
task to care about their political education. The main problem is
that the adult white people are a role model with their behavior
towards black people and
the white children adapt and/or copy the discriminating cruel treatment
of the black Africans.
In
this story, there is an open-minded girl that has got no experiences
with racial prejudices. But during the events described in the story she learns the benefits
of being white in a land controlled by white people. She starts to
take advantage of her white skin, even if black people have to
suffer for her pleasure.
