  • the books are there, finally!
  • homework presentation: Your results in your words
  • handout: facts & numbers Britain (group around Norman)
  • more facts: What happens in Greece - articles Frankfurter Rundschau |Source| and BBC |Source| - working on a European map and refugees' routes

    Method: collect new words for the word-field immigrants... and work out a way for yourself to get along with all the facts from different European perspectives (perhaps by help of a map drawn by hand?)

    Sorry, I've to go to the B@hnanum at 10.40 h to show Realschul pupils around, please:

  • work together with those reading the same book: exchange ideas, plans and your interests; talk about your expectations, methods of working, etc.
  • please fill in the handout and make sure I'll get it at 11.10 in the B@hnanum, thanks!

  • cool week ahead, looks like you'll be off on Friday after the 3rd period?
  • we should work on in the b@hnanum for obvious reasons: Your are still in the middle of working, need the material you collected and thus access to the server and the Internet, here we go bananas..
  • aim today: sum up the first results of your research (and research more: group-work, share the jobs to be done, please)
  • method: use your English to present the results (so you have to chew and digest the information and produce wonderful sentences coming from you) and quote where necessary. At the end: Source ( i.e. link), please - and some pictures to design your page

Week 9: Feb 25th - March 2nd, 2002

from: Polarstern - 23-02-2002: Hullo Mr Donath, how is life in Tschörmänie and especially in Aurich? We are getting ready to pack up again and my facharbeit is ready APART FROM the appendix. I can only finish that at home because I need to use the articles which have been published, so I hope it is Ok with you if I keep it for another week or so. Of course you can have the text version as soon  as you wish. There is one thing I must admit though: I haven't read a single page of daughter of Fortune. It is not even here, because I lost it somewhere....

Books are part of the competition of the International Newspaper Day |details, please| - they refer to a "World's Book Day", perhaps you can find out something about that, and: Marcel & Steffen have got an article about John Steinbeck (Frankfurter Rundschau) and an American approach to motivate people to read (all read the same book at the same time): Good idea to research this and write an article about it. Model for Germany? Why there and not here?

  • you should have a look at the Green Card Lottery, read the information form the email, find it if it is business, fake or reality, find more information about the Green Card Lottery (which really exists), etc.
  • btw: there's another interesting "Business proposal", this time from "WIDOW OF LATE PRESIDENT MOBUTU SESE-SEKO OF ZAIRE"
  • two older texts from news-magazines on "The Melting Pot Is Still Simmering" (TIME, Feb 22, 1993) and "Across the Borderline - In California, anger over immigrants is widening" (Newsweek, May 31, 1993) should be read, understood and reflected by talking about them; maybe they are helpful for your negotiated studies and if not, they'll at least offer us another (yet historical?) insight into the topic
