Hi,
I think we might be able to do an exchange on
Friday - I have a German 3/4 class of 13 students
(11th and 12th graders). If you could have yours
students write a list of questions for mine to answer,
maybe then we can start a dialogue between the two
groups (even for a short time). If you'd like to send
the e-mail to my address, I can distribute them and
have the students either open an e-mail address, or
use one that already exists to reply. Or if you have
any other better ideas about how to do this, we can
certainly try those.
Otherwise, I will try to write a short article and
get that sent to you ASAP.
Amy

Hi to Amy Waigel’s class,
We are the English AP course (grade 12) of the Gymnasium (High
school) Ulricianum Aurich in Lower Saxony, Germany.
We are 19 students. Currently we are working on the topic of migration by
taking looks at the situations of (illegal) immigrants in different countries.
For example Italy, Australia, France, Great Britain and Germany. We also plan
to start working on the situation in the US.
Here are some links to where you can see what we are doing and what we have
done:

our general course page

our immigration pages

and some pictures of
us
We would really like to initiate some type of dialogue with you.
We now have worked out some questions we would like to ask you.
What is the actual immigration rate?
Information about Mexican and Hispanic immigrants in general.
What you know about German immigrants in the US/your state. (German-Americans)
How important are illegal workers in the society (like gardeners,
harvest, etc.)
Are there like any preferences regarding their nationality? Like are Asian
immigrants more accepted than East-Europeans?
What you know and think about the “Green card lottery”.
How is the schooling for immigrants and do you have something like a
multicultural classroom?
Another question is regarding some facts about Mexicans coming to the US:
How many Mexicans came to the US last year and how high is the unemployment
rate in Mexico?
We hope you have some fun answer these questions and maybe you can help us.
We are looking forward to your answer.
Regards,
En22L
