For whatever reason, there are people who actually want to emigrate to Spain. Mostly they come from Morocco, and try to cross the Street of Gibraltar, because it's the shortest way from Morocco to Spain.
This seems to be somehow the way that emigrants from
Morocco are using, apparently they don't really know
what direction they're going. Kinda weird, ain't it ?
They come over in small dinghis, selfmade boats, some even dare to swim, and those who got at least some cash try to get over in smuggler boats. Those human traffickers usually rip them off a whole lot of money and leave them alone shortly before reaching the coast. Amazingly enough, most of them survive, because it's not such a long distance, and unlike Turkish Immigrants most of them even know how to swim, so they're likely to survive being thrown over board by the traffickers. That happens quite frequently because the smugglers don't want to get caught by the coast guards. Anyway, the coast guards seem to be fighting a war they can't win. It says that the coast guards barely get 15% of the immigrants, everybody else is still at large.
And it's also a known fact that 3 out of 4 Moroccans want to cross the Street of Gibraltar, mostly it's their families who are holding them back, because it's impossible to get everybody and his brother over there in a single rush.
Spain's coast has got a lot of small bays and the like, so there are thousands of possibilities for the smugglers to hide themselves, their boats, and also the illegal immigrants. In addition, the Moroccan coast guards have no chance to secure everything, especially because every single emigrant tries to get over during night time, and mostly they don't send invitation cards when and where they're trying to escape.
Since the economic situation in Argentina has got a lot worse there are many immigrants trying to get into Spain. There are several reasons why Argentines try to get to Spain: 90% of Argentines have European origins and their families came from Spain several years ago so that most Argentines look much like people from Spain. Their language also is a very similar one just a slight accent shows that they come from a different part of the world. They even have the same telephone company. Many Argentine immigrants got a chance to earn more money than in Argentina because they had the same education as in Europe.
This makes Argentines accepted in Spain and a place where many would like to stay.
You know, when we were young, we once tried to build our own raft. It was a whole lot of work, we made it out of cut-down trees which were so heavy that we were hardly able to carry a single one of them.
Well, anyway we didn't think about that they could probably not swim, neither did we think about how we could get our raft to the lake once it was finished, were we wanted to use it. I mean, I don't knwo how come we thought we could carry a raft made out of at least ten logs, when it was impossible for a single person to carry one log.
Amazingly enough, we somehow made it with the help of some adults, I think. But when we finally watered it, it did a thing that we did really not expect it to do. It was probably the last thing you would expect a raft to do - it sank.
Now we were about 10 to 12 years old, we weren't supposed to know about rafts and how they work, nor hadn't we watched Titanic yet so we didn't know that boats considered to be unsinkable usually sink.
But I think that grown-up mirgants should know about such things, they should know that the street of Gibraltar can't be crossed swimming, at least not by somebody who can barely swim. Nor are the chances of crossing it in a dinghi too good, or the chances to get over in a smuggler boat that is so overcrowded that it would barely stay above the water even when it has stranded somewhere.
I mean, they pay those smugglers about 2,000 bucks - I can tell you, for 2,000 bucks you can get a phony passport and a flight ticket, and that way it would be way less dangerous. Now how about that ?
Facts and figures:
- Didn't find any. Anyway, it must be hundreds of immigrants per day.
- This comes out when you're using google.com looking for "Spain and migration":
It must be some weird immigrant guy disguised
as a serious manager. Did you notice the strange
look in his eyes ?
- Yet another picture of the Street of Gibraltar, and actually this one isway better than the one above, maybe because it's from Christoph not Steffen:

Well, as you probably can read, if you can read,
(if you can't read you won't be able to read it anyway)
this is in Spanish. Which means you can't read it.

Sorry for the inconvenience.
By the way:
- 13 people a year are killed by vending machines falling on them.
- Boanthropy is an actual disease in which a man thinks he is an ox.
- 6 out of 10 Americans believe Joan of Arc is Noah's Wife.
That's it. We're finished. Done. Completely. Did you notice our lack of competence ? If you didn't, please move back to the top...
