Letter from Nigeriaby Inga Fröhlich und Anneke Focken

We received an email from Nigeria from a man called Abbas Malik. He offered us to invest his illegal money in any kind of project he can wash his money with. We decided to mail him back and suggested investments like rebuilding one floor of the World Trade Center as well as investing the money in shares for oil, insurances, computers, etc.

We thought before trusting this man we had to know more about his identity. So we started an internet research about Abbas Malik. There were lots of people called Abbas Malik, so we didn’t know if we found the right one. The most convincing was the homepage from a guy called Abbas Malik, a student from Pakistan.

We think that it maybe is a trick, which makes us visit Pakistan or Nigeria to bring money into the country or into his own pockets. So we would lose money instead of gaining.

We tried to find out more about Abbas Malik through the telephone number he put on the email, but we did not have enough time to research it properly. We also tried to find out more about his hotmail address, but did not succeed.

We decided to inform the police and the local newspaper, so that people don’t believe in this email and lose their money. We plan on creating a website which informs about this kind of crime with chain-letters.
