Mini-Exchange with Leeuwarden/NL

On Friday, 16th January, we- a group of 20 pupils and two teachers- met at the Ulricianum's parking lot at 8 o'clock in the morning to start our journey to "Leeuwarden", a small city relatively close to Groningen in the Netherlands where we wanted to visit our Dutch exchange partners. Two hours later, at about 10:30, the German group arrived at Piter - Jelles - Montessori School.

After we had just put down our luggage, the bus took us to a kind of "creative centre" called "Panaz" where we met our Dutch friends for the first time that day.

The teachers informed the whole group more closely about the course of the day and afterwards the German and Dutch pupils were divided into four mixed groups of about eight pupils. Each group participated in different workshops. While the first one was practicing a certain dance, for example, group number two was playing the "Jambe", a special kind of drum. But the other groups were busy, too: they made a city tour combined with finding answers to historical questions about Leeuwarden and went shopping in town. After a period of 45 minutes, the groups changed among one another so that everybody had the chance to experience different and interesting things and to get to know the city of Leeuwarden a bit more closely.

At 13:30, the four groups gathered at "Panaz" ,again, to find out about what was going on for the rest of the day. Then we had free time until 5 o'clock. We spent the time with preparing salads, cakes and other delicious things for the collective dinner and passed the rest of the time in our host families or just with our exchange partners themselves.

At 5 o'clock, all Dutch and German pupils went back to the school. Although all pupils had enjoyed the activities during the day, the whole group felt a bit exhausted and especially hungry so we decided to have dinner first and to go on with the "drama workshop" afterwards.
One hour later, when everybody had the feeling to be ready, again, we continued with acting in the assembly hall of the school. Newly mixed groups presented different scenes they had invented themselves in a period of 20 minutes. Afterwards, the Dutch pupils and teachers and later on, the Germans, too, pretended to go by bus and presented different moods of people which each "passenger" had to adapt to.

At about 8 o'clock in the evening, we had free time, again. Most pupils went to their host families, first and spent the following hours in smaller pubs in and around the city of Leeuwarden.

On Saturday morning, the majority of the pupils had breakfast in the different families and went shopping in town until 12:30pm when the Germans had to be back at the Dutch school to say goodbye to their exchange partners. At 1 o'clock pm, the bus started moving back to Aurich and an interesting exchange visit got to its end.
