There are lots of lizards in Texas, but the "yellow
spotted lizards", which are mentioned in the story, don't exist
in reality. They only appear in books from the author, Louis Sachar.
Nevertheless, he gives a lot of information about this little nice
and deadly animal.
Each yellow spotted lizard has exactly eleven yellow spots, but
they're hard to see because of their yellow-green body. These lizards
are from six to ten inches long. They have big red eyes, but in
reality, they have yellow eyes, only the skin around the eyes is red.
Yellow spotted lizards have black teeth and a milky white tongue.
They like to live in holes because of the shade and the protection
of predatory birds. Up to twenty lizards live in one hole. Their
favourite food are little animals, insects, certain cactus thorns and
the shells of sunflower seeds. They have strong legs and can leap
out of their holes very fast to catch their prey. At the end we have
to say they're very poisonous, so don't get too close to
them.
